SINCE WE ALL MISSED CLASS AGAIN TODAY we have battle posters to work on at home. Open Google Classroom, open up your March Mammal Madness bracket and choose who you think will win in the Final Roar/championship rounds ... turn the bracket in. THEN create a battle poster for YOUR champion. There is research and creativity involved for this task (and all details are in Google Classroom March Mammal Madness FINAL ROAR). Take a look at these posters from last year's battles... and please email me with any questions (or comment on your MMM work and my phone pings)!

SINCE WE MISSED CLASS TODAY and Spring Break is officially over we are starting back to schoolwork! I have posted this week's task in Google Classroom. FIRST you need to choose who you think will win in the Final Roar/championship rounds. Open your brackets and choose the winner of each Final Roar competition and the grand champion of all. THEN create a battle poster for YOUR champion. There is research and creativity involved for this task (and all details are in Google Classroom March Mammal Madness FINAL ROAR). Please email me with any questions! I am working all week 7:30-3:30 (and if you are working in the evenings just comment on your MMM bracket and it'll ping my phone). Some of you still have some work to finish from prior to Spring Break. Be sure to check PowerSchool for these missing assignments!!! Last year the championship round was Bengal Tiger vs. Moose. This year's Final Roar battles:
TINY TERRORS - Raccoon Dog vs. CATSish VS. DOGSish - Brown Hyena DOUBLE TROUBLE - Gorilla vs. AnthropoSCENE - Gopher Tortoise If only our weather was warm enough for swimsuits like the Friday picture below!!! Today is our last week day of Spring Break. Monday we are back to "school" and I will have a lesson in Google Classroom for you. Please make sure to check BOTH my blog (here) for general information and Google Classroom for work. I will be working during the days all week and check emails a few times in the evenings just like normal workweeks. IF YOU NEED ANSWERS FAST for work you are doing just comment on your MMM document and I will get a notification to my phone. BTW the Final Roar is set! Most of the early brackets are busted ... Ada, Michael M, and Oliver are still in it tho!!! More with Mammal Madness next week ... for now be well.
Seems odd to celebrate we made it to spring break because last week already felt like a break. I'm sorry that many of you had to cancel plans (I am not headed to Mexico myself AND have to deal with a bummed out son for having to cancel the trip ... tho with everyone canceled it seems better?). Spend time relaxing and don't worry about classwork (or do it ... it's YOUR vacation so do what you want to do!). I will check email during morning coffee and maybe again at some point in the day BUT it's my vacation too so I don't have to work! We will pick up after break with a March Mammal Madness task in GOOGLE classroom since we shall not be in the ACTUAL classroom! There is another battle round tonight and I will be updating the rodent recaps as well during break! Go Wolverine!!!
Officially you had work to finish this week: Superpower science (very late... but remember isn't done until it's done correctly), some NOTES about mutations to add to your notebook (if you have it with you... scroll to this Tuesday's post), and a BONUS moment to explore how Brainpop can be used for lessons (login using G suite with school gmail). If you can finish the conference sheet with your folks at any point in this shutdown just snap a pic and email me I will count as a "4" ... for those of you who didn't grab your notebook I am sure there will be a time after break to do so if this shutdown is going to be longer. I updated the latest battle from March Mammal Madness in classroom... check it out!
Feel free to email me at any time! We are "at work" from 7:30-3:30 today and I will always check emails a few times in the evening and this weekend. BE SAFE and WASH YOUR HANDS! Earliest spring in 124 years! Seems par for the course with all the craziness going on!!! SINCE WE MISSED CLASS TODAY some of you still have finishing work to do. Do what you can BUT please be sure to check Google Classroom/blog for updates regularly. Maybe it's in the morning when you have breakfast; a break mid-afternoon during snack; or right after dinner (food is important). Creating a schedule will help you feel more in control of the craziness.
I updated the latest for March Mammal Madness. Round 1 is done!!! How's your bracket? Remember email anytime with questions and give that Brainpop a try (remember to login with G suite NOT kms678)! Be safe and stay healthy! SINCE WE MISSED CLASS TODAY you need to finish Superpower work (if not done) AND get to conferencing with your folks! How ironic that I want you to set a goal for home habits!!! Now may be a great time to setup a schedule at home: chores, schoolwork, play, reading, trying something new, nap, get outside! Sometimes schedules give us normalcy and feel like we have some control during these uncontrollable times. Definitely get outside a bit!
I hope you were able to grab materials from school when you had the chance. If not, it may be challenging to finish the conference sheet (oh well). Hopefully we will be back to classes soon. In the meantime ... catch up on all your work from these past weeks (check comments in your document if you thought you were done with your Superpower paper). Look at the new post in Google Classroom. Login to Brainpop with your G suite account (google account) and NOT the kms678 login. Today we didn't do anything in the classroom because we won't be in the classroom for quite some time! You need to finish your Superpower Science work as well since that is now quite past due. Since we were in the middle of discussing protein synthesis and were going to add mutations I have added some videos below (and notes for you to copy/PRINT for mutations). I have a SWYK in Google Classroom to assess what you know about protein synthesis and mistakes in the code. Remember to take the time for sharing your notebooks with your folks! ANY CONFERENCE SHEET SHARED WITH ME DURING THIS TIME UNTIL WE ARE IN THE CLASSROOM AGAIN WILL BE A '4'! Be sure to either snap a pic of front/back and attach in email (use district account for gmail)! I will update my blog every day (even during break) so you can get a habit to check in. I will always have videos/details/humor/music/etc. to support your distance learning! BE SURE TO GRAB YOUR NOTEBOOKS!
Here's a mutations song to keep you in the science mood while you take notes!!!
Okay kiddos ... not the ideal and yet how perfectly fitting that we are learning all about RNA and protein synthesis (the steps for viral replication are similar). We are not in the classroom tomorrow but I am sure we will be given marching orders soon to provide you with lessons. In the meantime you can explore the LEARN GENETICS site. Or don't. Honestly I just hope you keep healthy!!!
