Today we took our SWYK on genetics... How has our understanding of life and living things changed since we decoded the genome? What may change in the future with our understanding of DNA and genetics? IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you will need to write a supported CEAEAEAL paragraph addressing each the questions above! Interesting to ponder! Tomorrow we meet in the library to research superpowers (what did you choose?).

Today we explored some advances in genetics. For centuries we have tried to choose specific traits through selective breeding but now we can select traits using genetic engineering! We can make corrections in genomes using CRISPR (which edits mistakes at the DNA level). There other advances using stem cells and gene therapies. It's amazing how we can fix DNA but it opens the door to some ethical dilemmas, ya?!?! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY explore some of the advances in genetics for tomorrow's SWYK. Today we explored a few genetic disorders caused by either extra chromosomes, too few chromosomes, mutations, or inherited traits. Tomorrow we shall explore more with advancements in genetics. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY be sure your planner gets checked when you return and CHECK THIS OUT.
Today we were off exploring the Maker Faire at the fairgrounds or exploring LEARN GENETICS. We also did a faces lab illustrating how the flip of a coin determines traits (not exactly a catalog to pick traits... yet!).
IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you missed out on some fun. Bummer. If you still need to finish with your kid face and you need the characteristics YOU CAN CLICK AND SCROLL. Monday back to normal day. Today we too our Genetics SWYK. Tomorrow we have a fun day planned: Maker Faire for part of the day and more genetics for part (regular HomeBase, Period 1, lunch, Periods 6 and 7). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you will need to take the SWYK sometime next week (either study hall, lunch, or after school).
Today we took the day to get caught up and review and discuss more with chromosomes and traits and genes. Tomorrow is our genetics SWYK. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY be sure to review the past few days of posts on this blog AND make sure glossary updated! Friday we shall look into the future! Today we explored how cells divide the chromosomes during Meiosis. Egg and sperm only have half of the chromosomes because of math. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you will want to either PRINT THE NOTES or copy in your notebook on the next available page. Tomorrow we review... Thursday SWYK! So today was a break from the planned SWYK. Some of you still need to finish up your Punnett Practice page... some of you already did. I think we will do the SWYK on Wednesday (to give time to check work and feel confident again after the long weekend of shoveling) or maybe Thursday... we shall see. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY so did I (home with the flu). Have you missed lots of classes? Scroll past posts to know what to catch up on. Just missed Friday like me? Wrap up the worksheet and help shovel!!! |
