Today we explored some human traits and discussed more about heredity and genetics. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you may choose to WATCH THIS VIDEO about traits and explore THIS WEBSITE and review "more about traits" as well as other topics (this site is amazing!) about heredity and genetics. We will revisit Mendel's work when we return from break. Enjoy your Spring Break kids!  Today we reviewed Mendel's work, added notes to our notebook about Mendel's work, reviewed genetics vocabulary, AND added the key terms for Mendel's work WITH definitions to our glossary. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you should watch the video below, add notes or details to remember in your notebook page 118, AND work on definitions for the following terms: DNA, RNA, gene, mutation, genome, genetics, chromosome, heredity, trait, alleles, dominant, recessive, purebred, hybrid, and fertilization. I'd love to see BOTH a list with definitions in your notes (page 118-119) AND in the glossary! Trait patrol tomorrow. Today we explored the history of studying inheritance. We read the Cells and Heredity textbook pp. 76-81 and answered a few questions about Mendel's work with peas (as well as added some additional vocabulary). Today we began our Genetics Unit. We reviewed what we already know about DNA, chromosomes, and genes AND we previewed a lot of words we will need to know in order to discuss genetics and heredity (Montana Content Standard 3.3). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can watch the video below and PRINT THESE for your notebook page 117. Tomorrow we shall go back in time and learn about Gregor Mendel's work. Today we turned in our packets no matter if finished or not; we turned in our CONFERENCE SHEETS though some of you STILL need to finish sharing your notebook with your folks and setting a new trimester 3 goal with plan of action to complete the goal; we switched back to the Cells and Heredity textbook; and periods 1, 3, and 5 wrote up the Strawberry DNA Extraction Lab. Periods 4 and 6 hit the 50% mark for on time conference sheets and they watched Bill Nye Genetics (it's on Netflix)! Some of you still need to wrap up the DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSION for the strawberry DNA lab (click the link and finish... rollover into page 116 if needed!). Tomorrow we all start Genetics/Heredity vocab! Today we extracted the DNA from strawberry cells! Pretty fun lab. YOU determine whether we have discussion questions to answer and a conclusion to write IF at least 50% of the CONFERENCE SHEETS are turned in on time Monday. Remember we DO NOT have parent/teacher conferences in the spring so this is YOUR conference with your parents on how the last trimester has gone. Packets turned in???  Today we set our new clock partners AND had a small window of time to work on packets (still not done? FINISH). Some of you needed more guidance on the CEAL: USE THIS. Tomorrow we extract DNA from a strawberry since our next unit revisits DNA. I didn't switch textbooks after all so you have the Human Biology and Health text for one last weekend. You need to COMPLETE YOUR CONFERENCE SHEET WITH YOUR PARENTS! Show off your amazing work... you have lots to share since the last conference sheet! Monday we either start the genetics unit OR we will write up a lab conclusion for the strawberry lab. It's up to YOU! 50% of conference sheets need to be in on time or we take the lab to full completion and not just exploration.  Today we took our organization of the human body SWYK. IF YOU MISSED CLASS you will need to take the SWYK when you return. The rest of class time was spent working on packets OR exploring dissection on the iPad (if packets done). We also have a new conference sheet to complete... Due Monday! As you look on Powerschool for T3 you may be shocked by the zeros... only correctly completed packets have a grade... those still in progress (even if correcting just one part) will show zero... fix work and I'll fix the zero!  |
