Today we finished our Counting Turtles lab. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can finish the questions on Monday (or Tuesday) when you return. If you missed class both yesterday AND today you get to skip the lab entirely! Yay you! Monday we have the last planner check of the year and hopefully I shall have your notebooks graded (I collected them today). Biome Blitz ahead!!!

Today we explored the technique of mark and recapture to estimate populations. We will finish the lab tomorrow in class and turn in our notebooks for a final notebook check (final planner check is Monday). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can get the data from your classmates tomorrow and wrap up your conclusion in class.  Today we explored the biotic, abiotic, and human factors that affect populations. It's important to remember that all things are linked! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY watch the video below and marvel in the connected nature of biotic with abiotic in our amazing biosphere! Tomorrow we will explore just how to count populations of organisms with our final lab of the year! Today we explored the tree of life through food (and of course took a SWYK). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can write your answers to the following questions on a sheet of loose-leaf paper and give to me when you return to class: 1) Should viruses get a branch in the tree of life? Explain your yes or no; 2) Which of the kingdoms is the coolest and why?; and finally 3) If you could cause one of the kingdoms (or even species) to go extinct which would you choose and why? Each answer deserves a CEAL to explain! Tomorrow is the KMS Classic during period 1 and then we explore life in the balance. Today we listed all the animals of the world by phylum (or class). This weekend you may find yourself out in this amazing world... notice all the members of the tree of life!!! Tuesday we are back to class and we have a SWYK (plus a kingdoms feast). Be sure you have all your notes ready. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can print the list of animals (or copy it into your notebook by hand... page 132 (and can roll into 133 if needed).  Today we explored how plants make roots, leaves, and flowers and the best strategies for survival. We also met Mother Nature! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you don't have anything to make up. Tomorrow we finish our tree of life work as we learn about all the animals in the world! Yes... they do! Today we explore some of the basics of the plant kingdom (and reviewed photosynthesis). Tomorrow we will explore how plants grow. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY check out the video below... symbiosis! Today we explored the fungi kingdom. We wrote some fabulous fungi facts and discovered fungal spores are everywhere! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY make sure to check in with another Paideia classmate to get your own fungi facts recorded on page 129 of the notebook (or do your own from the video below). Today we explored the protist kingdom. We spent the day reading from the textbook, watching Brainpop on Protists, and looking at specimens with the microscopes. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY make sure to check in with another Paideia classmate to fill in your triple Venn diagram (page 128 of the notebook... create one!).
