Use the following guide to write a CEAL paragraph for your speech.  The evidence should be included in the digital poster slides.  The analysis is what you add to the speech as you share with the class.

CLAIM (the topic sentence) Name your genetic disorder and preview the rest of the paragraph.

EVIDENCE and ANALYSIS:  Respond to all of the following in sentences as evidence and analysis of your information.

1. Evidence:  Explain mode of inheritance: what genes or chromosomes are involved?  Is it recessive or dominant?
Analysis:  Why is the mode of inheritance important?  Why is it important to know if recessive, dominant, etc.?  IF a gene disorder, explain what protein the gene SHOULD make and how it is affected now.

2. Evidence:  Provide clinical description and/or symptoms of the disorder.
Analysis:  Discuss affect on the patient’s body, life style, and expectations for the future, life expectancy, etc.

3. Evidence:  Explain treatments
Analysis:  Discuss side effects and success rate of treatment.

LEAVING THOUGHT (conclusion) Closing statement, summarizing what you have learned about the genetic disorder.

Tonight finish your GENETICS QUESTIONS!  Due tomorrow!

Are any of you brave enough to give the presentation a go tomorrow?  Write up your "script" tonight (use CEAL format and my suggested analysis points)...

Did you forget to bring the sheet home?  HERE is another copy for you to use... includes the components of the digital poster.

I hope the blizzard doesn't really hit all that hard...

We shall be in the library for more research tomorrow and Thursday for sure...

Some of the information for your disorder is a bit tricky... don't worry, we will find the information you need!

You may choose to research tonight on your own OR you can just wait...

Remember to complete your GENETICS QUESTIONS ... due on Friday!

Today we selected genetic disorders to research... good news is that we will be in the library all this week to gather information and create the digital poster we shall use for our presentations.

IF you were absent today you will need to choose your topic tomorrow (we meet IN THE LIBRARY)...

IF you were present today you DO NOT NEED TO RESEARCH TONIGHT ON YOUR OWN... but you sure can if you want!

Tomorrow is the big push for gathering evidence/information... on Wednesday we will start the digital poster that backs up your presentation.

Tonight you do need to answer your take home GENETICS QUESTIONS... remember a signature from your gene pool gives you a "4" in work ethic!!!  Due this Friday!

I am soooooooooooo glad that today's tests so far don't have clueless folks (well... those who have done the work these past few weeks KNOW their stuff!)...

Enjoy the weekend!  You can answer the Genetics Questions with your folks (get a signature for a "4") or all by yourself... due NEXT Friday, February 28th.  These questions count as the "current event" for February since they are all about common issues you may read about in the news...

Next week WE get to research...

Great video HERE for review... Punnett Squares, dominant, recessive, heterozygous, homozygous, alleles... you name it this covers it!

Test is tomorrow on all the work we have done with genetics... I look forward to amazing scores!  Review ALL of Chapter 3 (and understand about some human inheritance... p. 110-116)...

This weekend you have questions to answer asking opinions on advances in genetics... choose to discuss WITH your parents and score a "4" for work ethic!  (some of you NEED some better work ethic scores!)...

I will get PowerSchool up to date this evening...
Enjoy the snowfall!

Oh the fun we had today flipping coins to draw traits for our "offspring"...

IF you missed school today this is the ONE thing you DON'T need to make up... however you can if you wish... visit me during homebase or at lunch!

Tonight is your last chance to avoid detention!  ALL work from last week (punnett work AND meiosis work) must be completed to have an out from detention.

Friday is the next Genetics 101 Quiz... make sure all vocabulary terms are defined in your notebook's glossary just in case you need them!  Tomorrow we review...

Do you have p. 89 End of Section questions #1-5 done?  IF so, good...

Then do you have your Punnett Squares practice sheet done?  If so, good...

Is the Bikini Bottom worksheet done?  (you have to have the prior two assignments done for me to have given it to you though...)  If so, good...

Have you taken THIEVE notes from pages 92-96 (including End of Section Questions p. 96)... notes can go in notebook on page 88?  IF so, good...

Did you finish your venn diagram comparing and contrasting cell number, what happens to the chromosomes, steps or phases of each, and result or purpose of MITOSIS vs. MEIOSIS on p. 90 of your notebook?  If so, good... You are all caught up!

IF YOU CAN'T SAY "GOOD" FOR EACH OF THE ABOVE ASSIGNMENTS YOU NOW KNOW WHAT TO COMPLETE TO BE "CAUGHT UP"...  Anyone not caught up by Thursday's class time has a detention THURSDAY after school... no exceptions... do your job!!!  I am happy to meet you at lunch if you need help (or send me an email)... huntd@sd5.k12.mt.us ... could use the contact page too...  GOOD LUCK!
