Today we took a SWYK about heredity and Punnett Squares. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you will take this once back in class. Review the week's blog posts to be ready! Final results are in for the first rounds of March Mammal Madness. Is your bracket busted? Mine took some hits I must admit! Second rounds are now underway. We will all check in on the results of the March Mammal Madness when we return to school on April 1st! The Elite Trait round will be complete and we will make predictions for the Final Roar! Enjoy your Spring Break until then!!!
Today we learned how to draw and use Punnett squares to determine probability of genetic traits to be passed from parent to offspring. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can watch this video below AND print or copy THE STEPS FOR DRAWING PUNNETT SQUARES. Tomorrow we practice practice practice. Get those CONFERENCE SHEETS signed! You have until Friday for a "3." Some of you still have revision work to do on your Superpower Science papers as well. Today we explored human traits. Some follow Mendel's dominant and recessive patterns and some show codominance. Some human traits are not even 100% due to our genes! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY be sure your vocabulary is ALL CAUGHT UP. We will discuss probability and learn about Punnett squares tomorrow. Today we reviewed the contributions of Gregor Mendel to our understanding of heredity (passing of traits from parent to offspring). Today we have a much deeper understanding of genetics, genes, alleles, and expression of traits. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY watch the video below and add Mendel to your GOSATOT. You also need to add vocabulary to your glossary... WE COVERED MANY TERMS TODAY (and will continue tomorrow). Reminder that CONFERENCE SHEETS are due this Friday for a "3"... share your work and get that signature! Today we discussed Gregor Mendel and his pea plant experiments. So much learning about heredity! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY we will still be discussing Mendel on Monday so catch up then. You do need to finish and submit your Superpower Science work (it's late now). Remember any papers earning a "2" must be redone! Today we reviewed DNA and chromosomes and genes. We also added GENOME to both glossary and GOSATOT. We also had an opportunity to finish up Superpower Science papers (due tonight by midnight!).
