Today we continued with our genetic disease research. Some of us even began our PowerPoint in class today. Tonight you need to finish any missing research (try www.genome.gov as another resource). Be ready to begin your PowerPoint tomorrow to support your speech. The script for your speech will follow an expanded CEAL format. The evidence should be included in the digital poster slides. The analysis is what you add to the speech as you share with the class. I expect a written or typed page of your script. CLAIM (the topic sentence) Name your genetic disorder and preview the rest of the paragraph. EVIDENCE and ANALYSIS: Respond to all of the following in sentences as evidence and analysis of your information. 1. Evidence: Explain mode of inheritance: what genes or chromosomes are involved? Is it recessive or dominant? Analysis: Why is the mode of inheritance important? Why is it important to know if recessive, dominant, etc.? IF a gene disorder, explain what protein the gene SHOULD make and how it is affected now. 2. Evidence: Provide clinical description and/or symptoms of the disorder. Analysis: Discuss effect on the patient’s body, life style, and expectations for the future, life expectancy, etc. Expand on the discussion from the bulleted slideshow. 3. Evidence: Explain treatments and the management of the disorder. Analysis: Discuss side effects and success rate of treatment. Include any support groups for the disorder. Many disorders can’t be eliminated so what might a person’s life be like with this disorder? LEAVING THOUGHT (conclusion) Closing statement, summarizing what you have learned about the genetic disorder. We will continue to meet in the writing center Thursday and Friday to complete the work. Conference sheets are due on FRIDAY so make a date with your folks and show off your great work!
