Today we 1) worked on our CELLS PARTS CHART; 2) added the term organelle to our glossary; 3) added ROBERT BROWN and CAMILLO GOLGI to our Giants of Science page; 4) watched the Brainpop below; and then listened to (and sang along with) many of the fun cell songs! FINISH THE CHART TONIGHT! Tomorrow we shall check the parts and jobs and do some coloring of a cell diagram! We also will get instructions for the cell project (will be due Wednesday, December 21st). All work done outside of class!

Today we began our understanding of the organelles within cells. We have a cell parts chart to fill in using the textbook information (pages 16-24). IF YOU WERE ABSENT TODAY YOU CAN EITHER PRINT THIS OR GRAB ONE DURING STUDY HALL TOMORROW MORNING. We will continue discussing organelle jobs tomorrow! This song is helpful to know the jobs of the organelles... AND is an educational earworm!
Today we took our SWYK on microscopes. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you will need to plan a time on Monday to make up the SWYK (lunch or after school). This weekend is notes free UNLESS you really never did the work from LAST week... I am happy to change the work ethic score IF you actually finish the work! Otherwise enjoy the snow!!! We zoom into cells next week and will be learning all the organelles! PSSST... maybe you are wanting your own cool smart phone pocket microscope? ORDER HERE!!! ![]() Today we learned how to make our own slide with a wet mount. We looked at our hair! IF YOU WERE ABSENT: you will need to make a lunch or after school date upon return to do this task! Tonight you need to review microscope parts, use of the microscope, AND the history (and historic figures) of the microscope and discovering cells. Review pages 6-13 of your Cells and Heredity textbook; review your notes; play any of the study games I linked for the past few days' posts; and watch any scope videos linked as well. Tomorrow we SWYK (no notes)! Be prepared for best success!!! Today we explored MORE with microscopes! IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you should come to study hall tomorrow morning so you can see what you missed (cool prepared slides!). We will do a bit more with scopes tomorrow and then Friday is a SWYK (no notes allowed). KNOW YOUR PARTS and how to use the scope. You could review YESTERDAY'S POST WITH VIDEO AND SOME COOL SITES. Or use the following:
QUIZLET FOR REVIEW game; MICROSCOPE PARTS review game; and yet another for MICROSCOPE PARTS Today we USED the microscopes. Just a quick look at a slide to understand how to use the scopes. We will use the scopes again tomorrow and make our own slides too! Friday is the SWYK on parts and jobs and use of the microscope so tonight you could review THIS WEBSITE FOR A FLASHCARD GAME. You may also choose to explore THIS WEBSITE FOR COOL MICROSCOPE INFORMATION IN GENERAL. Maybe you were hoping for your own easy foldable microscope to use with your cell phone? CHECK OUT FOLDSCOPES! IF you missed class today you will need to PRINT THESE NOTES (attach on p. 70) and meet with me to do a tutorial on scopes before you can move into making your own slides (maybe come for lunch tomorrow?). Today we labeled a diagram of a compound microscope with both names of parts AND the jobs of the parts (microscope structure and functions!). Tomorrow we will learn to USE the scopes! Wednesday we will make our own slides to view. Thursday is a review day and Friday is a SWYK (no notes on this one!!! AAAAAK). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can print the microscope structure and functions notes and attach them to pages 68/69 of your text. I assume everyone is done with last week's work? If not, revew and finish!
Today we had a classroom work day for our notes on Discovering Cells (pages 6-13 in the Cells and Heredity textbook). We also added the Giants and Tools to our GOSATOT page (all the timeline info from pages 8-9 as well as Schleiden, Schwann, and Virchow!). IF you still have notes to finish THEN you better wrap it up over the weekend! Next week we will explore the microscope: parts and use. After that we look inside the cell!!! Today we started the Discovering Cells section of the new textbook. Set aside about 10-15 minutes tonight for more with your notes (pages 6-13 in the Cells and Heredity textbook - notes on p. 64 in the notebook and take the pages you need). Tomorrow we will explore more with cell theory and update our Giants of Science and Tools of Technology! Fun stuff indeed!!! Next week is all about the microscope: parts and use. |
