Today was a day for science safety theater! We witnessed a few lab scenarios gone awry and discussed the correct/safe way to do things. Tomorrow we shall once again have time to work on our "What is Science?" notes. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY be sure to review these scenarios and ponder just what would be the safe thing to do. Email me if you have any questions. Equinox Syllabus Survey due tomorrow. Signed safety contract due Monday.

Today we reviewed safety in the science classroom. You need your signature, your parent's signature, and any health/safety concerns on the safety contract (signed and returned by Monday's class). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you are welcome to print your own contract OR you can grab one when you return to KMS. You will not be allowed to participate in labs until I have your signed safety contract in hand. Tomorrow we shall review safety; Friday we continue our "What is Science?" notes. (Equinox Syllabus Survey due Friday as well)
Today we revisited inference (the interpretation of observation combining evidence and prior knowledge) and practiced observation skills. We also used a tool (hand lens) to better observe pennies. Finally, we explored how science changes when new evidence comes along (new pennies and new puzzle pieces). IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you may watch the video below and add both inference and observation to your notebook glossary (if you don't have your notebook at home with you no worries... we can get that all set when you return). Reminder to finish the syllabus survey work by Friday! FIRST we inferred that SD5 must no longer have a subscription to BrainPOP based on the error messages that have popped up from students doing notes using the choice board (I'll update a NEW choice to use by this Friday's work time). SECOND we revisited our polar bear/fish game to try and infer the rules of the game. FINALLY, we explored yet one more inference activity and added inference to our glossary. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can add inference to your notebook glossary (list the term on letter I page, write phonetic spelling, definition, and add an example &/or illustration of inference). If you don't have your notebook at home you are welcome to just wait until you return. Today we reviewed where to sit for the 6:00 time (sub seating chart is set with your clock partner at the specific biome table). We also checked out the Back To School "Open House" Syllabus Survey task and added notes in our notebooks on page 1 for the "What is Science" notes task. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you can check Google Classroom for both survey AND notes task. Be sure to save 4 full pages in the front of your notebook and THEN start page 1 for notes (we'll need those extra pages for the table of contents this year). Email me if you need more explanation please OR we'll get you all caught up on Monday. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
Today we setup our seating plan AND were given a Back to School "Open House" Survey to do with our folks. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY I have your seating chart for you when you return. Check Google Classroom for details on this new survey assignment. It's not due until NEXT Friday and we shall have some time in class tomorrow to start the work.
Today we setup our science notebook for this school year. We just have seating setup to do tomorrow in class. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you are welcome to look over these steps to setup your notebook OR you can wait until you are back in school and I promise to get you all set up and ready to go (I'll have the sticker tabs for your Glossary and GOSATOT).
Today we did a bit of group work to 1) write all science words we know from A to Z and 2) infer the rules about bears and fish. Tomorrow we will follow a procedure to setup our science notebook (no one wrote P - procedure). Thursday we shall revisit the bears/fish. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY you don't have anything to make up. Just be sure to bring your 3 subject spiral to class tomorrow.
Today we explored technology in science class. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY check your science Google Classroom to see what we did. You should bookmark THIS Hunt's Ramblings page for reference anytime you miss class. You could also enter the code: 52934466 into the Menti.com and answer the prompt.
We will continue with more science-ing Tuesday. Until then, have a GREAT long weekend! So glad to be in school teaching once again. Still need to shop for supplies? Check your planner for the items you still need. We will setup our science notebooks next Wednesday. IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY I shall see you tomorrow and we'll get you all caught up.
