Goodness gracious... TWO DAYS OF PLAY... first Glacier field trip and today Fall Fun Day! We are back to the classroom and a full day tomorrow. We have some data to analyze! I am working on a slideshow of the great adventures from Tuesday. Email me any pictures you may have taken?! (huntd@sd5.k12.mt.us) Thanks!
What a great trip we had today!!! Nothing beats a day in Glacier National Park in the fall! Today we collected data (click HERE for the data collection page). We shall continue to analyze the data once back in the classroom. Take a moment tonight to share with your family all about your adventures!
Today we learned how to use a dichotomous key (AKA taxonomic key) and practiced the method of sampling we will use in the field. Tonight you need to pack a lunch, water, and layers (with raingear!) for the trip. I am hopeful we get barely a sprinkle! See you tomorrow all set and ready for Glacier National Park!!! Go science!!! Today we continued our discussion of data. We added QUALITATIVE DATA as well as QUANTITATIVE DATA to our glossaries (letter Q... look em up to gather a definition and then add an example and an illustration for the concept... check yours with ours when you are back to school!). We also began discussing just what kind of data we shall collect while in Glacier National Park on Tuesday, September 15th. Succession is the focus.
Today we set up our WHEEL in the notebook page 11. Some of us still need/want color. Some of us were not done with the details. You can view (or print) THIS WHEEL HERE IF YOU NEED TO. We also added the term "data" to our glossary with phonetic spelling, definition, examples, illustration, and statement which linked DATA to scientific discovery. You can catch up tomorrow easily. Watch this video for more on the scientific process! Tomorrow we shall continue exploring data as we discover what data we shall collect in Glacier! Today we discussed our picture of science as well as some skills and tools that scientists use to gather data. Tomorrow we continue with understanding the methods of science and data collection. I need Glacier Park PERMISSION SLIPS no later than homebase tomorrow (if you need school to pack a lunch for you)!!! Open House is tomorrow night... encourage your parents to come meet us!!!
Today we finished setting up our notebooks and clock partners. IF you were absent today we have your clocks and you can come in before school/after school/at lunch/or homebase to finish your notebook setup. Permission slips for Glacier National Park field trip are due as well... still need one? PRINT THIS RIGHT NOW Tomorrow we explore what you know of the work of scientists. Right now check out the cool pics below:
Today we started to set up the science notebook... Tuesday we will finish (no school Monday for Labor Day!). This weekend you need to get your GLACIER PARK FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP signed. Due Tuesday! Have a fantastic weekend. Rest up... school's just getting started and we have so much to learn this year!!!
Only a few classes have a few more students to go sharing characteristic bags. Tomorrow we put together our notebook for science. Come prepared with your 3 subject college ruled notebook raring to go!!! I will give you the Glacier Park permission slips tomorrow for signing this weekend. Schoolwork sure starts up fast!!!
