Tonight you begin designing your experiment to test "Which abiotic factor is most important for seeds to germinate?"... Do you still need to LAPS your background? CLICK THIS to view the paragraph and continue your background knowledge notes (IF you don't finish with background... that's okay... You can work tomorrow... or the next day... or this weekend... I bet you have an idea of what abiotic factor is important!)
On the top of page 20 you should write your hypothesis (I think...because OR If...then...because) of which abiotic factor YOU THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR A SEED TO GERMINATE. The next step is to write YOUR OWN LAB DESIGN TO TEST YOUR HYPOTHESIS! You know what to do for this... write a detailed step by step procedure (skip a few lines in between your steps in case it's not so perfect this first go around though). What materials will you need? What data will you collect? Have the rough idea ready to work on in class tomorrow! We will clean up your rough draft to prepare for planting Friday! This Needs of Seeds lab will be a final assessment for your understanding of Standard 1: Students demonstrate the ability to design, conduct, and communicate results and conclusions of scientific investigations. All the work so far with Tootsie Pops, perfect pumpkins, and even Glacier Park data has prepared you for this!

so do we have to talk about what the pumpkin needs inorder to live for the abiotic factor?

Yes... you need to choose what is the most important abiotic factor for a seed to germinate... then design and experiment to test it...
